I found a way to make a 640x480 mpeg-1 on Apple's support page. Check it out.

Sorry, this does not work. I can't find were it has the size 320x240 in the text file. More research.

Has anybody tried this?

I have used Compressor to make an mpeg-1 video that is 640 x 480 and looks great (for mpeg-1). I use this for clients that use trial presentation software to show video depositions. Just go into you 'Library' folder in your home folder and open the Compressor folder in 'Application Support'. Look for the DVD/MPEG-1 folder and open it up. Inside there is a Compressor preset document 'MPEG-1 DVD'. Duplicate this document and give it a unique name like 'MPEG-1 640X480' and then proceed to open this doc with TextEdit. About halfway down, look for the video settings 320 x 240 and change them to read 640 x 480 and save and quit. Launch Compressor from FCP. Once you've imported or selected your project that you will be using with Compressor, you can click on the setting button that reveals the pop-up settings and the preset that you created should be listed at the bottom of the preset list. Select this preset and away you go. Good luck.

I will try it and post my results here.

Looks like we were both trying the same thing. In theory it was working, but for some reason once you drop a clip in it just reverts back to 320x240. This makes sense, because 320x240 used to be the default size for MPEG-1 content when it was first created. There is probably a "flag" inside of compressor that is saying "DVD or VCD" or something like that and if that could be turned off then you could force the size up. In Squeeze it tries to force VCD and NTSC and you have to turn those both to NONE to get it to 640x480.

Weird though, because I KNOW I did it in the last version of Compressor.
