TOPIC: Replacing audio in FCP timeline

Replacing audio in FCP timeline 2 years, 9 months ago #452

I just finished a rough cut on a project using the in camera audio. Now I would like to replace that audio with the mixed audio that was recorded separately. Is there a quick way to do this? I know that you can sync the audio/video using the "merge clips" feature in FC, but would that create up-res issues?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

We need more details. Did you mix the audio in Sound Track Pro from your FCP timeline? If not how did yo mix it? Is the mixed audio one file that you can lay down in the audio track without sync issues?

I'm using separate tracks of audio from on location mixed sound. So they are not one track and it was not mixed in Soundtrack. I'm wondering what is the easiest way to replace the cameras reference audio with mixed audio that was recorded on set.

You will just have to lay it down and sync it up the best you can. Is there dialog?

You need to find a sync point in the production audio and the on-board audio, place a marker on both, and make sure you look at the waveforms as you do this. Then you'll move the markers to line up, then you'll want to then LINK the video and audio by selecting both and going to the menu and select Modify>>Link, or use the keyboard shortcut, command+L.

I hope that helps.
