First and foremost, we want this user group to add value to what you do as a media professional. A place you want to visit and participate in frequently, both offline and online. In order to do that, we need your input. What things would you like from the group, again both in an online setting and an offline setting?

Your ideas, input, and suggestions will not be taken lightly, we'll take into account all suggestions. We want to ensure that our group is one of the best in the World. This will only happen if you, the media-savvy professional will help us, and participate. Sure there are a lot of other groups out there, but we want to combine the best EXPERIENCE with a mix of OFFLINE and ONLINE activities. Most social networks are so intangible, and to really network on a significant level we realize we all need to meet in person, get to know one another, and help one another. Our OFFLINE and ONLINE approach will truly make us unique. We plan on taking FULL advantage of WEB 2.0 experiences and applications as well as reaping the benefits of live meetings, keynote speakers, etc...

So send us your input. We are all ears.

We are just getting started...let the fun begin!

With web video becoming more and more popular I would like to see a topic of web video. With H.264 now playable on Flash player 9, I would like to have discussion on best practices and how to compress video for web. Also with the announcement that you can now put HD on red laser disc and have it play in a HD player, I would like topic for Bluray.

Great idea. It would be nice to get some input on best practices from those who have deep experience with prepping web video for mass distribution online. We will start a forum. ThVizh08 will be a moderator on that forum.

Thanks! Keep the ideas coming!

Can you create a "Test Forum", they have one on Creative COW and I think it is helpful. Love the site!

The "Test Post Forum" allows users to post something to make sure they our posting correctly with out having to post in a Forum unrelated to a junk post. For example, I've created a Forum Signature with an embedded link to my website. I would like to post a test post to see if it worked or not.

One other thing, I would love it if you would ad an "About You" section to the Profile Page so users can type in what ever they want about themselves.

I love what you have going on so far. There is a lot of great things going on both with content and the opportunity to connect with other professionals.

With entry page, I thought I might suggest a modification. I think it would be useful to have recent content. Like submitted articles in the center, then access to the forums on the side.

I am thinking this could look like macrumors or boingboing. But I do believe people will be driven here largely by the quality of the information they can find. I also think it would be helpful for people to be able to add comments to the articles (to disagree and throw tomatoes, as well as to add or correct information).

Lastly, I am assuming this is a phpbb board, in which case I would recommend adding a youtube button for posting. Most of the video professionals here will upload videos elsewhere and link them, but since youtube is such a prevalent (and free) application, I think users will want to use it to show examples, demos and references.

Great work guys.

Wow, that was fast.

I was updating my software experience (which is somewhat minimal) and thought I'd like to add Illustrator to my skill set. But then I thought there are so many apps out there that it would be an onerous task for the admins to have to update every time someone wanted to add a software proficiency. Maybe it would be better if that area was left blank so that you could add your own. Silverlight? iMovie (roast)? Toast? Protools? etc...

I would suggest dividing the forum into topics/subtopics. There may be a decidedly small user base posting now, but if it grows significantly (which I'm assuming it will) having all the posts on the main page will get out of hand. Creating categories for specific areas (ie. instead of FCPS2, separating by Color, Motion etc; also by profession Editor, VFX artist, Compositors, Producers etc) will greatly enhance the flow of traffic and the search-ability of the forums.

It seems the functionality for this suggestion might already be in place, but I don't think/know it's working.

EDIT: Okay, I'm retarded an need to learn forums better... >.< Didn't realize that "Recent Discussions" was the defaulted tab. Carry on, great work.

Currently when posting to a thread the forum subscribes you to that thread and you get email updates. It's a nice feature, but I don' think that should be the default setting. I don't want to get email updates if I respond to a question, or if I simply drop a "hi". I would, however, like to be able to turn it on if there is a hot discussion that I am interested or involved in.

Agreed. I keep forgetting to uncheck that auto-notify box and I would probably only want to check it if I knew I wasn't going to be on the forum for a while and I was waiting for a response on something I wrote.

Any way to add links in the "About Me" section of a profile? If not, can that feature be added?

How about a Mac forum for nonFCP questions? The two are tied closely together, invariably there are OS issues that are not app-specific but affect things globally. A few things I can think of off the top of my head are new features with Leopard, Bugs, itunes issues, quicktime, hot keys, preferences etc..

Maybe I'm more interested in that because I am not much of an editor.

Since we're all a local niche' here, I think it'd be sweet to have a Buy / Sell / Trade section,.. so I can sell my G5 , or other video editing related gear.

Every thing else is great so far! I think you'll need to divide the forums up into sub-colums like previously suggested, otherwise it'll get messy real fast.

Thanks!
