Enjoy some of the key points from the meeting

Again the key points below are simply tips, ideas, and collective knowledge we hope will aid you in your quest to successfully integrate a successful P2 aquisition and final delivery workflow into your production regime. Remember, the key is that you do have a system, a set workflow that you consistently use. The ideas below are just that, ideas. The key is to take the collective ideas that have worked for others and create a consistent, notice we used that word again, P2 workflow that will work best for your style, business, and type of production.

Shooting Tips
  • Organization is paramount when you have to offload and reuse P2 Cards.
  • Use a P2 Wrangler or a DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) to log and offload P2 footage and then return the ready to use P2 cards to the Director of Photography.
  • Remember you are shifting part of the post production budget forward, and will need a DIT to log on set.
  • The P2 Wrangler or DIT must be an organized, focused, and overly anal peronsality type.
    • The major role of a DIT or P2 Wrangler consists of:
      • Protection and organization of your digital assets.
      • 2nd tier to ensure file integrity and transfer.
      • Makes sure all files are backed your preferred way.
      • Advanced DIT’s can start to organize, create and file metadata.
      • Informs editor of any unique issue relating to the files.
P2 Shooting Workflow
  1. Shoot until your P2 Card's are full.
  2. DP, DIT, and/or the W2 Wrangler should treate P2 Card's as exposed film.
  3. The very first thing the DIT should do is WRITE PROTECT THE CARD!
  4. Place the P2 card back into it's clear protective plastic case with the rubber boot on the bottome to protect the pins.
  5. If immediate offload is not possible, create a system with colored gaffer tape and put it over the end of the case with the camera, reel #, date, and any other important information you will want to know about that particular footage (write it down now, because you'll forget!).
Logging P2 Footage
