George Jan Koblasa, ASC Just upgraded the HD in my MacBook Pro to 320GB 7200 and 16mg, transfered the programs and files from the back up drive. Now I am not able to use the XDCAM transfer software. I used to have Snow Leopard, and now it shows only the Leopard op. system. Could the different op. syst. be the culprit. Which version of the XDCAM transfer software should I download for the Leopard op. sys ? Thanks, GK

Get ready for the DSLR shootout of the year on September 25th at Rocky Mountain Raceways!

SLCCUT.com has teamed up with Pictureline and Rocky Mountain Raceway for an exclusive DSLR shootout event.   Select SLCCUT members will be chosen based on community participation to display their HD DSLR skills using an array of amazing lenses furnished by Pictureline. This will all happen during a Jet car drag race at Rocky Mountain Raceways on September 25th.

The 12 lucky SLCCUT members will make up 4 teams. Each team will be posted at a certain vantage point during the race with an array of lenses and a Canon 5D or Canon 7D. After the event, each team will receive all footage that was shot and will compete to cut together a 30 second spot for Rocky Mountain Raceway. The individual team entries will be judged by RMR and the winner will receive 4 AJA IO Express devices, 1 for each winning team member!

Apple Compressor Stuck Batch Process

Apple_Compressor_Repair.jpgIf you have ever worked with Apple Compressor, you will at some point be submitting your videos to be processed in batches, either to your individual computer or to a virtual cluster that you have created with your multi-core Mac (for more information on (how to create a virtual render farm/cluster with Compressor view this acticle). And if you do it enough times you might find that one of your processess in the Batch Monitor will get stuck in the great compressionists' void I like to call the "Great Compression Recession". This is where loose tongues meet up with short-fused tempers. And it usually happens when trying to meet a critical deadline.

Money. That's why. That's what it boils down to. MONEY. Of course, you're thinking...what about LOCATION, CAST and CREW, not to mention DISTRIBUTION? What about a killer SCRIPT?

It is true that Utah has a stunning array of mind-blowing locations suitable for most any blockbuster, a gold mine of crew talent with some of the best Directors, DP's, grips, gaffers and sound engineers in the business, not to mention exceptional post-production talent including award winning sound designers, composers and special effects artists.
