Migrating Premiere Pro project to Final Cut Pro 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I need some information on taking a set of projects done on Premier to Final cut.
I'm pretty sure Automatic duck will make the sequence available, but will FCP2
handle the video files or will they need to be converted too. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

I mean Final Cut Studio 2. Sorry I should have been clearer.

Do you mean Final Cut Studio 2 or Final Cut Pro 2. I am assuming you mean Final Cut Pro 6.0, correct? Is the Premiere Pro project on a Windows Machine? Are the files within the Premiere Pro project .AVI files or .MOV?

Automatic Duck will not convert .AVI's to .MOVs, you would either have to re-capture (re-digitize for you older guys out there) and/or re-export your .AVI clips to .MOV's then reconnect the media in FCP. You will need to export the Premiere Pro CS4 project as an AAF file, that is how Automatic Duck will import it into Final Cut Pro. For more information on AAF files you can go here:

help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS3...1d303d48ed-8000.html

Answering these questions will give me the info I need to give you the best workflow.

We are in talks with the guys at Automatic Duck, and they will be coming to Utah for a meeting to put on a Demo for the group some time in the first quarter of 2009.

Best Regards.

It is Final Cut Studio 2 with Final Cut ver. 6.0.5.
All of the files are AVI and on Windows fomatted hard drives.
Thank you for getting back to me on this. I think I may have to learn Preimer because
there is over 2TB of footage to convert otherwise.
I look forward to seeing the Automatic duck software people. Thanks.

You could easily convert all of them into .MOV files. You could just move the AVI files over to your Mac formatted storage system, or mount the PC drives to the MAC system, throw the AVI's into Compressor, create your export settings, apply it to all the clips, and let it crunch away overnight. I guess it will come down to an issue of budget, time, and cost. It may be worth it to get the footage into an editing arena where you feel more comfortable and are able to work more efficiently. But again, you'll have to have another 2 TB of space just to convert the AVI's to MOV's.

Anyways, I hope we've been helpful.
