TOPIC: Product Review: Manfrotto 504

Product Review: Manfrotto 504 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Interested in knowing if any of you in the camera department here have used the new Manfrotto head that Manfrotto was hyping at the NABShow. They indicated that they've added ball bearings to make the action smoother and are making a big deal out of the U-shaped design. ?? I would like to add a gearbox to it so that it would work with wheels on the X Y axis.

Any info about experience with this product would be appreciated.

List, with sticks: $740

Michael,

Can you post a web link to the product so I'm sure what one you are talking about?

Thanks!

This head was shown at the most recent NAB with the 546B legs

As I said, I'd like to put a gearbox on it and use it with wheels and I was wondering if anyone had experience with the head or a setup like I'm describing.

So Philip had a 504, and I put it to use. It's a tradeoff... wouldn't want to go backpacking with it, but the head and clutches are SOoooooo much smoother to use for p/t... more later on the idea of puting a gearbox on it

Gotta love the Italians for their design sensitivities.

On the other hand, I schlepped the carbon-fiber Manfrotto up to the Albion basin this week, and the Gitzo head, while lighter, requires more experience to do smooth moves. (As in life) ~grin~ As far as a platform is concerned, the EX3 is light enough to rest steady on the other, lighter sticks.
