We are looking for some extra help with an After Effects & Cinema 4D project beginning Friday, September 10 and ending Friday, September 17.

We need someone who can help out with rotoscoping in Mocha, compositing in After Effects, and Shading in cinema 4D

It would be ideal if you could come work out of our office for the week (We are located in downtown Salt Lake),and work long hours (about 12 hour days, including Saturday September 11). It's a big project with a rapidly approaching deadline, so it might get crazy!

If you're interested please send demo reel, resume, and hourly rate to Jenirae at jenirae(at)fiftyfilms.com

Thanks!

Take a class at Spy Hop. They got me started with FCP in the 8th grade and I've never taken another class since, I just figured out a few more things on my own. Once you start, it's really easy to progress and keep learning on your own.

Also, if she is really serious, and you can tell she has deep interest and innate creative ability, I would get her started with Final Cut Pro (Final Cut Studio) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002J1UJ4A?ie=UTF8&tag=sc0cc-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390) or Final Cut Express (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Z3DXT2?ie=UTF8&tag=sc0cc-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390) right away, the sooner the better, iMovie, especially the newer version, really doesn't allow for much growth, control, or creativity. The sooner she starts, the better she will be in the long run. I started when I was about her age, or round about 11 years old, and I really feel those years of play really helped me get many of the amateur kinks out that take time to iron through before you really start to produce professional work.

Remember, Final Cut Express is a stripped down version of Final Cut Pro, which is sold in the Final Cut Studio bundle. I would at least get her setup with Final Cut Express, then at a later date Final Cut Studio.

I hope that helps. Feel free to ask any more questions.

The best education is simply doing . Shooting, editing, shooting, editing, shooting, editing...over and over again. Like free throws in basketball. Shoot, edit, assess the good, bad, and the ugly. Then, the next time around try to work on weak spots. A good practice is to find a video your child likes, and see if she can mimmick some of the techniques.

As far as software training goes, the best training is play, but if more formal training is needed. Lynda.com (http://Lynda.com) is a great resource, and is relatively affordable.

I think imovie would be a good way to go to get her started as far as editing goes. There are plenty of tutorials online. Here is a good source for beginners: http://www.izzyvideo.com/

I just saw this posted, a picture taken by Phillip Bloom, looks like something that could push HDSLR filmmaking to the next level:

http://slccut.com/images/fbfiles/images/p_2592_1936_639EEBC3_182A_4241_80F2_4BF25AD065D2.jpg

Could be a whole new type of camera form factor as well. Perhaps a hybrid between an HDSLR camera and a traditional video camera. But it looks like it's a fixed lens and like it came from the droid factory on the set of Star Wars:

http://slccut.com/images/fbfiles/images/l_2592_1936_CF20DF94_5AC7_475B_8595_6C3B098D565C.jpg

Phillip Bloom's take is the following:

This is the Canon 4K concept camera. It was actually working and was crisp as hell…This concept camera had a fixed 2/3″ 20x Zoom lens as the chip itself is 2/3″. I am not sure what the idea of it is, they mentioned something about medical something or other. It’s obviously not a cinema concept camera due to the fixed lens. The image out of it was actually really really nice. As I have said and I and am sure you all want to, is to see an APS-C chip in camera like this and use all the current Canon glass or PL lenses…but Canon have a different marketing strategy to someone like RED. RED announce their road map and make it very public. Canon keep things close to their chest. If there is a cinema camera coming out or a new improved DSLR for video there is no way they would show a concept camera of it and show the competition what they have up their sleeve. Canon do not give much away and of course that is probably from a business stand point the best thing to do. That is why this camera really is to show what they are capable of more than anything, not what they plan to do…I would put money down that we won’t know until pretty close to release of any big developments with regards to video in DSLR or the next evolution of that.
